Help us make community-designed decorations for South Asian Heritage Month in Turnpike Lane!
Throughout South Asia, trucks, buses and rickshaws are decorated with metal sheets, embossed with iconic South Asian designs and painted in bright colours. Truck art has come to tell the story of the trucker, their lovers and hometowns.
Using this art form to tell the stories of residents in Haringey, join local artist Sunbul Akhtar (@nightpress) for a drop-in craft session to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month. You will emboss thin metal sheets with a design that represents your story. Designs will be collected at the end of the session and hung on metal wires in a shop window to view.
Come along and:
- consider your personal story in relation to South Asian Heritage Month, Haringey and your personal identity
- create your own design to represent this story
- emboss your design on a metal sheet
No experience required! Just yourself, your ideas, your story!
Organised by Bruce Castle Museum and Archive with the artist Sunbul Akhtar and the Culture Team, Haringey Council.
