Reminiscence Café - Bruce Castle: 120 Years, and Still Going Strong

Let’s celebrate! This year Bruce Castle Museum will be 120 years old, and what a roller coaster ride of survival it has been! Closed during two World Wars, used as a municipal health clinic during the twenties and thirties – and all the time teetering on the brink of full-time closure, maybe even demolition, as its very old fabric needed constant, urgent repairs. Now the recent MEND grant has given us a much-restored building we can look forward to many more years with Bruce Castle open to the public.

What are your early memories of coming here? Were you a child, or were you much older?
