To commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day, we will hear the story of sculptor and Holocaust survivor Naomi Blake - a Muswell Hill resident and graduate of the Hornsey School of Art. 

Born in Mukacevo, Czechoslovakia, Naomi Blake arrived in London in 1952. She survived Auschwitz, sabotaged bombs in Brahnau slave labour camp, escaped the notorious death marches and contributed to the creation of the State of Israel. Despite her survival, she always carried the memory of the 18 family members including 10 children that were murdered.  

Head to our little explorers gallery to dress up as a knight or dragon, and then get crafting in our activity room to make a shiny sword or shield ready to do battle at the Castle!

From stories and collections from Bruce Castle Museum and Archive, Curator Deborah Hedgecock explores local Jewish heritage recorded and seen through the eyes of artists, photographers, makers and designers living and working in Haringey. Including well-known names such as Bertold Lubetkin, Roman Halter, Gestetner and Harris Lebus, this beautifully-illustrated talk also shares the work of overlooked artists, hidden stories and moving testimonies from over the past 400 years - all greatly enriching or shaping British culture. 

Join local artist and tutor Susan Bryan for a relaxed workshop for absolute beginners in drawing. These classes provide a great chance to release your inner artist in a unique and inspiring Grade 1 listed building.

Art materials and refreshments included. Suitable for ages 16 and over.

Tickets are £12 and can be booked via Eventbrite.

It’s that time of the year again when we see ever more sophisticated adverts for ever more sophisticated gifts to give our loved ones on Valentine’s Day. But I have a preference for the simpler adverts of my childhood, such as this one for Love Hearts produced by Barratt’s Sweets in Wood Green.

In this clay-based workshop, hear the story of the Viking boat found on Tottenham marshes, discover the role of dragons in Norse mythology, and use clay to sculpt your own Viking Dragon Ship.
