Tottenham Heritage Walks with Bruce Castle Museum and Archive bring you a free and fascinating Jewish History

Walking tour around Tottenham. Starting at the Holocaust Memorial Garden of Remembrance in Bruce Castle Park, your guide Carol Hebbs will reflect on some of the testimonies remembered here of Holocaust survivors who settled in Haringey. The tour will go on to share stories and community histories about Jewish-owned shops and businesses once found on the High Road; and the former large factories at Tottenham Hale, including world class names Lebus and Gestetner that employed thousands, many from working class Jewish families who settled in the streets between The Hale and Lansdowne Road.

It will highlight important places for the community: the former High Cross synagogue of the Tottenham Hebrew Congregation, and the previous Jewish Home and Hospital on the High Road. And also look at the hostility experienced in the area after the Aliens Act of 1905 and the ‘Tottenham Outrage’ incident in 1909.

The tour will last approximately 2 hours, and will end near Seven Sisters, convenient for bus and tube travel.

Please wear sensible footwear and dress for the weather and for walking.

Places are limited and need to be booked through Eventbrite.
