temporary museum closure 19 - 26 august

Upstairs Gallery Closure

Our upstairs galleries are no longer accessible to the public for the foreseeable future of the project.

You can still visit the ground floor galleries, plus see our new exhibition – John Godden’s Art – in the Old Kitchen Gallery.

Summer Closure of the Archive Search Room

As part of Bruce Castle’s MEND major building project there will be around 5 weeks’ worth of works to improve the Search Room space. There will be no public access for research from Monday 29 July until early September. During this time staff will have limited access to the museum, archive and local history collections and we will only be able to offer a restricted email public enquiry service. We may not in some cases be able to answer particular enquiries until the works are completed.

We do appreciate that people will be wanting to conduct research during the summer and apologise for this inconvenience. These are essential works which are part of the wider Bruce Castle MEND works and we will enjoy welcoming you back to our newly refurbished research space when we reopen. We will keep you updated on when we will be reopening via our social media platforms and website.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Education Programme

Educational bookings for Autumn Terms 2024 open on Monday 2 September 2024.

Please state the topic, year group, and number of classes that would like to visit, and our education team will contact you.

About the Project

We are delighted to share that our exciting MEND capital works and restoration programme in our East Wing have now started.

Contractors Clive Graham Associates started work on site on 20 May. With colleagues in Haringey Council we have worked closely with heritage architects Rodney Melville + Partners planning the works for our wonderful Grade 1 listed building.

The works will see us addressing and stabilising structural issues, making fire protection upgrades, repairing historic fabric, and improving accessibility, as well as transforming an 18th century room into a new public space for exhibitions and community use, enhancing public access to the museum’s unique and fascinating collection.

This project has been boosted with extra funding, thanks to £588,000 secured from the Museum Estate and Development (MEND) fund, provided by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sports and delivered by Arts Council England.
